Health law will help students, too
My daughter is a senior in high school and she wants to be a doctor. Her older brother is studying to be a teacher. The combined cost of their college education will be more than the value of an average home.
In the past, loans for college have been operated by private banks who collected all the profits, wrote all the rules in their favor and passed all the defaults onto the taxpayer. High interest rates and rules allowing the charging of interest before graduation and employment meant punishing debt for American students with a desire to achieve and serve their community with much-needed occupations like engineers, doctors and teachers.
The recent health care bill included needed student loan reforms and grants that will work toward solving many of these problems. I would like to say thank you to all those who voted for it, worked hard to pass it, and to our president who made it happen.
The passage of this law will go a long way toward increasing our strength as a nation and pave the way for a brighter future for America.
