Driver cited for no child safety seat after I-88 crash

A Chicago man was cited for not having a child restrained in a safety seat after he and two children were hurt in a single-car crash on I-88 near Naperville at 1:09 a.m. Saturday.

Joe Gathings, 52, of the 600 block of W. 61st St. in Chicago, was driving west on I-88 when he struck a median wall, according to state police Master Sgt. Susan Ewald.

Gathings, along with and an 8-year-old and 2-year-old, were taken to Edward Hospital in Naperville with facial injuries.

His relation to the two children was not available Sunday. The injuries were not serious, police said.
