Tell officials no on golf outing
On Aug. 26, the Lake Villa Assessor will host on behalf of the Lake County Township Assessor's Association (LCTAA) the Annual LCTAA Golf Outing. While these type of events are great for team building, they are conducted during a normal business day thereby shutting down many township assessor offices. Wait, there is more! Several (not all) townships in Lake County ask the tax payers to foot the bill for this $55-per-person golf outing. That's right, some townships pay (with your tax dollars) for this event. As a taxpayer, I might be able to swallow the fact that I assist in the payment of the salary of the participant and could turn my head to this weekday event if it helped morale, but I absolutely put my foot down to paying for this golf outing with my hard-earned dollars. I encourage all who read this to call their township and tell them you do not appreciate them using your tax dollars to fund a golf outing. If each of us took a bit more interest in our local governments, we just might save a few dollars of our outlandish property tax bills. Hold our local elected officials accountable!
