Woman charged with harassing witness in husband's case
A Winthrop Harbor woman has been charged with harassing a teen who is the complaining witness in a battery case against her husband.
Susan Urban, 53, faces up to seven years in prison if convicted of felony harassment of a witness but would also be eligible for probation.
Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Marc Bangser said Jack Urban, 55, was charged with misdemeanor battery on March 10.
Bangser said Jack Urban was for allegedly kissing a 14-year-old girl. Shortly after the charges were filed, Bangser said, Susan Urban drove to the girl's house and spent about 10 minutes banging on the door and demanding to speak to the girl and her mother.
Susan Urban left the house, Bangser said, but then made several phone calls to the house and again demanded to speak to the girl.
Bangser told Associate Judge Charles Johnson on Saturday that the girl is "extremely fearful and has been unable to sleep" since the incident.
Johnson set a $10,000 bond for Susan Urban and told her not to "call, e-mail, text or even think about" the girl and her mother until the case is resolved.
Susan Urban is due to appear in court again March 23 and Jack Urban, who faces up to one year in jail if convicted, is scheduled to appear March 16.
