Bike commission established:

A bicycle advisory commission has been created in Libertyville. The purpose is to promote and educate the public on bicycling, foster safety programs, assess and review the bike path system in the village, act as an advocate for bicycle programs in Libertyville and be a liaison with other governmental units regarding bikeway plans and other issues. The commission will be comprised of a village board member, Libertyville High School staff member and three citizens to be appointed by Mayor Terry Weppler with the consent of the village board. The group will report to the village board's streets committee.

H1N1 flu clinics scheduled:The Lake County Health Department is offering a free, walk-in H1N1 vaccination clinic from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Shiloh Baptist Church, 800 S. Genesee St., Waukegan. The clinic also is offered March 25 to March 28 at the Belvidere Discount Mall, 2107 Belvidere Road, Waukegan. It runs noon to 5 p.m. March 25 and 26, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 27 and 28. The flu season lasts through April and almost all flu illnesses at this point have been attributed to H1N1, according to the department. Vaccinations also are available from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. weekdays at the health department's immunization clinic, 2303 Dodge Ave., Waukegan. Students must be 5 years old on or before Sep. 1, 2010 to be eligible. Parents must provide proof of residency. Registration will be at B.J. Hooper, Pleviak, Thompson and Martin schools. The first of several job fairs at Six Flags Great America is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 13, at the park, 542 N. Route 21, Gurnee. Job fairs also are scheduled for noon to 8 p.m. March 23 and April 6, and 3:30 to 8 p.m. April 20. Candidates can learn about a variety job positions available at the park, including ride operations, admissions, games and food services. Applicants are encouraged to complete their online application before the hiring events at www.sixflagsjobs.com.
