Teen center on the village board agenda tonight in Arlington Heights
Three groups involved with trying to save the Arlington Heights Teen Center will present reports tonight to the village board, but members of the public will not be allowed to talk.
A large crowd is expected to attend the meeting, which is the second of the board's four budget review sessions. Tonight's meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. with the teen center presentations at about 8:30 p.m. They will follow discussions of budgets of the Building Department, Health Services and Senior Services.
Public comment on the teen center or other issues will be allowed at the April 5 hearing on the entire budget, and 33 people did talk about the center at a December meeting of the village board, officials said.
The village board has voted that the severe financial situation requires removing budgetary support of $379,000 from the teen center. That will close the center unless other funding can be found.
Mayor Arlene Mulder said the Youth Commission and two other groups would be allowed to present updates on their efforts to find funding and keep the center open.
