Suspect in Peoria murder says it was self-defense

PEORIA -- A Peoria County prosecutor says a suspect being held on $1 million bond in the August slaying of Clifford Harvey Jr. maintains he was acting in self-defense.

Assistant Peoria County State's Attorney Steven Pattelli said Thursday that 20-year-old Daniel Jackson of Peoria allegedly confessed to police that he shot Harvey the night of Aug. 29 as part of an ongoing gang dispute. Pattelli said in Bond Court that Jackson also told officers he shot Harvey after Harvey threatened him with a screwdriver.

Police say Harvey suffered a gunshot wound to the back that exited his chest. He was pronounced dead about two hours after he was found lying in the street.
