Grayslake North opens tourney with win

The opening game of the inaugural Grayslake North girls soccer invitational turned out well for the host school Tuesday.

The Knights edged Glenbard West 2-1, as a pair of sophomores, Lyz Steinhoff and Allie Ceglarek, scored goals.

Grayslake North opened the scoring about 15 minutes into the match, as sophomore Katie Lahera gathered a cross and found Steinhoff, who redirected the ball into the goal.

Senior Lainey Pasternak set up Ceglarek to make it 2-0, before Glenbard West drew within a goal on a shot by Lauren Davis late in the first half.

"The girls really came out strong in the first half," Knights coach Adam DeCaluwe said, "and it allowed us to control the tempo and flow of the game."

Knights keeper Brooke Sauer made 6 saves.

Grayslake North (2-2) hosts Dundee-Crown at 2:30 p.m. today.
