Not guilty plea in Elgin home invasion
An Elgin teen pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges stemming from a west-side home invasion in which a man was beaten and robbed.
Marc O. Duncan, 17, of the 500 block of West Highland Avenue, is one of three people charged in the Jan. 5 incident on the 200 block of Walnut Street.
Kane County Judge Allen M. Anderson said he faces up to 60 years in prison if convicted of home invasion, a Class X felony. Duncan, who was indicted March 16, also faces one count of residential burglary and two counts of aggravated battery.
Police said Duncan, along with co-defendants Troy E. Bradford, 19, of South Elgin, and Alexis Monton, 18, of Elgin, targeted a man they knew in the late-night invasion.
Authorities said the victim was beaten and robbed of his money after he answered a knock on the door of his apartment around 11:30 p.m.
Bradford pleaded not guilty on March 17, while Monton is scheduled for arraignment April 8, according to court records. Both face the same charges as Duncan, who was being held in the county jail Thursday with bond set at $100,000.
His next court date is April 15.
