Lakes falls short in Florida
Lakes' girls softball team suffered a wild loss in Florida on Tuesday.
Coming off a Shannon Cooley 1-hitter on Monday, the Eagles fell to 1-1 in the tournament with a 17-15 loss to Kettering Fairmont.
"We've been hitting the ball really well this year," Lakes coach Bill Hamill said. "But we're struggling with some defensive positioning."
Regina 9, Round Lake 2: Regina's Panthers blew open a tight game with 5 runs in the bottom of the sixth.
They took advantage of some defensive miscues by the Round Lake outfield.
Melissa Larson had 3 hits and drew a walk in 4 plate appearances to lead Round Lake (0-5), while Sam Hughes handled six plays perfectly at shortstop.
Lake Zurich loses twice: In the McCook indoor tournament in LaGrange, the Bears fell to Marengo 6-2 and then to Elk Grove 6-3.
Tabbetha Bohac went 2-for-3 against Marengo, while Erin Sweeney had a double. Kelli Blume singled, walked and scored a run. Bohac took the defeat in the circle.
Against Elk Grove, Alli McGinnis (2-for-2) tripled and Megan Mattera belted an RBI double. Amanda Orchard also had a hit and an RBI. Mattera (1-2) suffered the loss.
Marengo 15, Libertyville 3: Amanda Hart went 3-for-5 with 4 RBI for Marengo.
