Two charged in Elgin shooting held on $500,000 each
Bail was set Saturday at $500,000 each for two Elgin men following a shooting near the city's Wing Park.
No one was hurt in the shooting, which occurred about noon Friday and was gang-related, police said.
Charged with attempted first-degree murder are: Juan Mecedo, 23, of the 200 block of North Jackson Street; and Carlos Berrum, 21, of the 1300 block of Getzlemen Drive.
The shooting occurred after two cars with at least two gang members in each, drove by each other at Wing Street and Weston Avenue, police said.
The men began yelling at each other, and one suspect pulled a gun and fired at least five shots, police said.
Police wouldn't say if Mecedo or Berrum fired the shots, which hit the other car.
The gun used in the attack was not recovered, police said.
Bail was set Saturday in Kane County court. Both men were sent to the Kane County jail after the hearing.
