Fox Valley briefs
C'ville changes garbage daysStarting Monday, Carpentersville will scrap its five-day garbage collection schedule in favor of a two-day schedule. Instead of picking up trash Monday through Friday, ARC Disposal and Recycling will now collect garbage only on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The change is a result of the merger of ARC Disposal, Allied Waste and Republic Services, according to village officials. Residents who currently put out their garbage on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday will all have Wednesday as their pickup day. Residents whose current pickup day is Thursday or Friday will have to put the garbage out on Thursday. Residents whose pickup days are changing are being notified this week. The children's section was closed for a week last month while library staff relocated materials to the annex. Library officials pursued the annex as a solution to their space crunch after voters rejected a tax increase that would have funded a permanent addition. The annex will also allow the library to hold more programming on-site. About 100 people attended ribbon-cutting ceremonies for the annex this month. "We hope this new space will be fun for everyone to enjoy and explore," new library Director Patrick McDonald said.
