Huntley to resurface Southwind subdivision
Even after two years of budget cuts, Huntley officials still have enough money to resurface two miles of streets in the village this year.
The village board recently signed off on about $950,000 in repairs as part of Huntley's annual street improvement program.
The funds will pay Plote Construction to resurface streets and fix sidewalks, curbs and driveways on village-owned property along the following roads, most of them in the Southwind subdivision: Bedford, Marvin, Yardley, Chetwood and Dalton drives; Bordeaux Drive from Dalton to Bedford; Ashley Court; and Grove Street from Mill to Martin streets.
Because Plote's bid came in 35.8 percent below the village's estimate, the village added resurfacing of Cambridge Drive to the project list. Even with the addition, the 2010 street improvement program is expected to cost about $50,000 less than the $1 million budgeted.
The repairs will be paid for with $650,000 in motor fuel tax revenue and $350,000 from the village's capital projects fund.
Motor fuel tax funds are shared between the state and municipalities, which get the funds on a per-capita basis. Between gas and sales taxes, Huntley is receiving an additional $817,000 in annual state funds because of the special census it conducted in 2008, according to village estimates.
The 2010 census and a possible increase in the gas tax could net even more money for infrastructure repair and upgrades in the village.
