N. Aurora traffic stop leads to weapons charges

Two men were arrested in North Aurora over the weekend after a loaded .22-caliber gun was found in the vehicle in which they were riding, police said Monday.

Shatner D. Dillard, 22, of the 100 block of North Kendall Street, Aurora, and Malachi V. Hurt, 18, of the 1400 block of East 15th Street, Ford Heights, each were charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm by a street gang member. Dillard also was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, police said.

The men were stopped about 12:30 a.m. Saturday after Dillard was clocked driving 45 mph in a 30 mph zone on westbound Sullivan Road, near Golden Oaks Parkway, said North Aurora Lt. Scott Buziecki.

Police searched the vehicle and discovered the semi-automatic weapon un-cased in the passenger compartment, Buziecki said. Neither suspect had a valid Firearm Owner's Identification card, he added.

A judge set bond at $300,000 for both Dillard and Hurt, who are due back in court March 23. Both men remained in the Kane County jail Monday.
