Ind. man sentenced for 1985 killing of Calif. mom
SANTA ANA, Calif. -- An Indiana man has been sentenced to 25 years to life in California prison for the 1985 murder of a single mother in Anaheim.
Wendell Patrick Lemond of Indianapolis was found guilty in July of the first-degree murder of 20-year-old Catherine Tameny, and on Friday was sentenced in a Santa Ana courtroom.
On Aug. 5, 1985, Tameny was sexually assaulted and killed in her apartment while her 2-year-old son was bound and left in another room. The child, Nick Medina, gave a statement to the court before Friday's sentencing, saying Lemond deprived him of growing up with a mother.
Detectives used DNA to link Lemond to the murder in 2007.
Lemond had worked with the victim.
