Aurora man convicted of home invasion
An Aurora man was found guilty this week of breaking into his ex-girlfriend's house in early 2009 and holding her against her will.
Calvin R. Meeks, 39, of the 2300 block of Chandler Court, was convicted by a jury on felony charges of home invasion, residential burglary, and unlawful restraint in connection with the Feb. 1, 2009 incident.
Kane County Sheriff's deputies were called to the victim's home in the 1400 block of Cedar Avenue in Aurora Township that day after she reported a threatening phone call from Meeks.
Before deputies got there, authorities said, Meeks broke down the door, grabbed the woman by the hair and throat and dragged her from the home to his vehicle. He slapped her as he drove around with her for an hour before freeing her, police said.
Police responding to a second 911 call from a neighbor discovered the victim's 9-year-old son alone and in the house.
Meeks was arrested later that month in Georgia.
He now faces a mandatory prison term between six and 30 years when sentenced March 26.
