Fort Sheridan optionsAn open house to review possibilities and receive comments regarding options for the Forest Sheridan Forest Preserve will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, at the Gorton Community Center, 400 E. Illinois Road, Lake Forest. The open house will provide an informal setting to view maps and comment on three golf course concepts and open space options being considered by a master plan advisory committee. Lake County Forest Preserve staff will be available to answer questions. Those who can't attend can view the options at lcfpd.org/fort and submit comments via e-mail to fort@lcfpd.org. For more information, call (847) 968-3206.10th rabid bat foundA bat found by a resident in his home in Zion on July 22 tested positive for rabies, the 10th this year, according to the Lake County Health Department. Because the bat was found in the room where the resident was sleeping, the resident has been advised to receive treatment as a precaution. To date this year rabid bats have been found in Beach Park (May 7), Grayslake (May 12), Fox Lake (May 26), Waukegan (June 1), Lake Villa (June 24), Third Lake (June 27), Long Grove (July 5), Waukegan (July 14), Waukegan (July 16) and Zion (July 22). In 2009, nine bats tested positive for rabies. Anyone who has direct contact with a bat or notices a bat acting in an unusual manner, such as flying in daylight or lying on the ground or in your home, should call the health department at (847) 949-9925.Trustee positions availableThe Lake Villa District Library Board of Trustees will have two positions available on the April 2011 general election ballot. The two seats, whose responsibilities include oversight and governing of library operations, serve six-year terms. Petition packets for obtaining signatures are available at the library, and the period to obtain a minimum of 50 signatures is from Sept. 21 through Dec. 20.
