How could Arlington Hts. garbage vote go so wrong?
Congratulations to Joseph Farwell for being the lone trustee who interpreted the voting interests of Arlington Heights' homeowners correctly.
The village survey numbers say that 59 percent of Arlington Heights homeowners opted for once-a-week garbage collection service or having the option to pay for a second pickup.
This strongly outweighs the 41 percent choosing twice-a-week service. These numbers, along with the fact that Arlington Heights remains one of two communities in the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County that have twice-a-week garbage pickup, should have convinced ALL the trustees that homeowners would be better off saving their $50 a year.
Both Village Manager Bill Dixon and trustees agreed that cost was the major concern of most survey respondents. In addition, despite a monthly rate freeze for one year by Groot, residents may see a rate increase with the new contract due to village subsidizing the fees this year.
Please, then, explain to me how the vote was in favor of a twice-a-week garbage collection and for five years as well!
