Red-light cameras serving a purpose
Read Jim Johnson's letter from Arlington Heights. Try walking around your suburb, then you will understand the necessity of coming to a full stop.
Saturday, walking back to my apartment from Jewel at South Cook/Hough Street, a new Ford Focus rolled through the stop light. Well, I walked a few feet, after stepping back - after 10 years in Barrington I know the Barrington woman driver - she then held up traffic in front of Einstein Bagel.
I yelled from across the street, "Do you know what a pedestrian is? You're a lousy driver, lady, and your stupid new Ford Fusion won't last long with you driving it."
It happens every time I try to walk to the Jewel or the library; I now have the Barrington Library put my books at the Metra station book drop-off.
I would guess the age group is under 50 - think they own the streets - then it dawned on me, wonder if any of them are married to law enforcement, retired or active duty. They swagger out of their cars.
If and when I can afford to move to Utrecht, the Netherlands ... aah, I wonder what it would be like?
