Supreme Court made bad situation worse

The Supreme Court of the United States has done it now. With its decision to allow unlimited contributions from businesses to political campaigns the court has made big business the overlords and small businesses the disenfranchised.

Does anybody really believe that big business doesn't already enjoy an unfair advantage due to the sheer amount of cash they already contribute to politicians? The Web site, opensecrets.org, lists the amount of money that is given and by whom. There has recently been lip service to the fact that small business indeed employs more than 70 percent of the people right now. Small businesses are simply trying to become big businesses.

That is how it works. Take it from me, a small business owner for 25 years, who has to devote so much time and money just to stave off the onslaught of big business trying to kill the competition. As a small guy providing competitive prices and service, I bring real socially redeeming value to the market place let alone more jobs. Big business can now rely more heavily on buying influence to drive out their competition while smoothing it all over with heavy advertising expenditures and favorable media exposure. The media won't bite the hand that feeds them. Unfortunately, the small guy can't afford the same luxury.
