Carol Stream man drives car through backyard, hits deck, shed

An 85-year-old Carol Stream man drove his car over a curb and crashed into a deck and shed before coming to rest next to a tree, police said Wednesday.

Willis Crosby was pulling up to his son's home Tuesday on the 900 block of Rocky Valley Way when he accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, Deputy Chief Jerry O'Brien said.

Crosby's 2000 Ford Taurus jumped the curb and traveled along the south side of his son's home and through his backyard. The car then veered toward another home on the 800 block of High Ridge Pass, and sideswiped a deck and shed.

O'Brien said no citations were issued and Crosby and his wife were taken to Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield as a precautionary measure.

"We will have the driver submit his information to the secretary of state to retest him, which is pretty standard for a collision like this," O'Brien said.
