Police still investigating death of Carpentersville child
The Chicago police and fire departments released few details Tuesday about the death of a baby boy from Carpentersville who died Sunday, but a timeline of what happened beforehand became more clear.
The city's Area 5 detective division is now conducting a death investigation into the matter surrounding Hamad Moore, an 18-month-old who lived in the 0-100 block of Oxford Drive in Carpentersville's Fox View Apartments, police said.
As well, the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is also investigating abuse allegations against the family that were filed the same day Hamad was hospitalized.
At 4:23 a.m. Thursday, the Chicago Fire Department was called to a house in the 900 block of North Long Avenue, where the baby, who had been staying with an unidentified family member, was unconscious and not breathing, said Larry Langford, director of media affairs for the Chicago Fire Department.
"Advanced lifesaving techniques were used to maintain viability of the patient while the patient was delivered to the emergency room," Langford said.
The fire department took the baby to Children's Memorial Hospital and police got involved in the situation about two hours later, said Chicago Police Officer Daniel O'Brien.
At 6:15 a.m., hospital staff called police because a physical exam of the baby revealed injuries on his body. O'Brien said he did not have any details about the injuries.
Meanwhile, DCFS opened an abuse investigation involving the boy Thursday, a spokesman confirmed.
The baby was pronounced dead at the hospital on Sunday. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office was not releasing his cause of death, citing the ongoing police investigation. And the Cook County State's Attorney's office declined to comment because the police department had not yet turned the case over to it.
