Connick: Saints win a boost to New Orleans post-Katrina

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida -- Singer and New Orleans native Harry Connick Jr. says the economic and emotional boost from the Saints' Super Bowl victory is giving the city unprecedented momentum in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

Connick, who was at Daytona International Speedway to sing the national anthem for Sunday's Daytona 500, says the tourism money brought in to local businesses from the pro football team's playoff run is carrying over into another strong tourism draw: Mardi Gras.

"It's just the greatest feeling in the world," Connick said. "And especially for it to happen right now around Mardi Gras time, in my opinion, it's the greatest time in the history of our city, at least as long as I've been alive."

Connick, who was wearing a black shirt with a gold fleur de lis, the Saints' colors and logo, said the city is excited and proud of the team.
