Music specialist performs at Woodland Primary School

Woodland Primary School earlier this month welcomed music specialist Carole Peterson, who performed for Early Childhood students and Woodland Early Learning Experience Students.

Sponsored by the Woodland School District PTA, Peterson performed her concert "Macaroni Soup!" with Alvin McGovern, her accompanist. Dubbed "the Pied Piper of children's music," Peterson is a nationally renowned music specialist. Her cross-curricular music and guidance techniques instantly invite all audiences from the youngest child to the oldest adult to join in singing, dancing and rhythmic movement.

Peterson has been teaching music for children ages 1 to 6 since 1989. Through her company, Macaroni Soup!, she travels across the United States presenting concerts for children and families, and workshops for teachers, librarians and parents.

"The students and teachers are excited to see her perform and are looking forward to dancing, singing and enjoying the music together," said Assistant Principal Stacey Anderson. "The traits of her concert align with our Early Childhood state standards by encouraging students to participate and explore the areas of music and dance and the expressive qualities of the arts."

Peterson's next performance in the area will be at 1:30 on Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Wauconda Library, 801 N. Main St.
