Elginbull; The Elgin Police Department is encouraging residents to call with any information that will help them find George Martinez, 19, who was charged in the 2008 slaying of Jaime Benitez. Benitez, 16, was shot in the back on Halloween after a house party in the 500 block of Douglas Avenue, soon after a fight broke out between rival gang members. Martinez, whose last known address was the 800 block of Parkway Avenue, Elgin, should be considered armed and dangerous. He was thought to be in Mexico, but police think he may have left that country and need you to help them find him. Include ELGINPD at the beginning of the text and follow that with any information about Martinez. bull; A woman in the 600 block of Chippewa Drive told police Wednesday that she had been the victim of identify theft. She said she received a letter from the Internal Revenue Service that said she owed $3,168 in back taxes dating back to 2007 for a series of jobs the woman says she never held. bull; Sara L. Galeana, 17, of the 500 block of Raymond Street, Elgin, was charged with unlawful use of a credit card Wednesday for a Nov. 21 incident in which she used someone else's debit card to buy a cake, gift cards and several other items that combined, were worth more than $300, police said. Her bond was set at $15,000 and her next court date is Feb. 25 at the Kane County Judicial Center. bull; Someone broke the passenger side window of a Chevrolet Malibu parked in the 200 block of Academy Way Wednesday and stole a Coach purse that the owner had left unattended on the seat. Two credit cards, $100 cash and a set of house keys were inside the purse as well, police said. bull; Stefania Auddino, 19, of the 2000 block of Thornwood Circle, St. Charles, and Viridiana Ascencio, 18, of the 0-100 block of Churchill Court, Elgin, were each charged with retail theft Wednesday, after police said they stole a combined $93.96 worth of makeup from Walmart, 1001 N. Randall Road. Both were released after posting $100 bond and are due in court March 12 in Elgin. The charges were dropped against both on March 23, 2011.Carpentersvillebull; Jesus Simental, 17, of the 0-100 block of Birch Street, Carpentersville, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance Wednesday, after police discovered he had less than 15 grams of cocaine, police said. His bond was set at $20,000 and he is due in court Feb. 26 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
