Two women charged with arson after Park City mobile home fire
Police are investigating whether a Park City woman who they say set fire to her mobile home also started two other mobile home fires in the past 12 years, Park City Police Chief Walter Holderbaum said.
Kimberly Jones, 48, of the 3000 block of Diane Street, Park City, and Tammy Klein, 35, of Beach Park, have been charged with aggravated arson following the blaze that burned Jones' mobile home to the ground Monday, Holderbaum said.
Gurnee firefighters arrived at the mobile home at 9:30 a.m. to find it totally engulfed in flames. Jones and Klein, who were in the home at the time of the fire, escaped safely.
Holderbaum said the women gave conflicting stories on how the fire ignited when questioned by police. After further investigation, they both admitted to intentionally starting the fire, police said.
Jones and Klein are eligible to spend the next 30 years behind bars if found guilty of the Class X felonies.
Holderbaum said Jones was the owner of two other mobile homes that started on fire in 1998 and 2008. Holderbaum said those fires are being reinvestigated to determine if arson was the cause.
