McCain visits Chicago for Kirk fundraiser

U.S. Sen. John McCain is in Chicago to raise money for fellow Republican Mark Kirk.

McCain says he's feeling "very good" about Kirk's chances of winning President Barack Obama's old U.S. Senate seat. McCain spoke to reporters Friday on his way into the Chicago fundraiser, which was closed to the media.

Kirk is a five-term congressman who's competing against Democrat Alexi Giannoulias for the Senate seat. Democrat Roland Burris currently holds the seat but didn't run for a full term.

McCain says Illinois is unique and Republicans shouldn't "over-learn lessons" from other states, including Scott Brown's recent upset win in Massachusetts.

Kirk says he needs to earn the support of voters in Illinois, which is a Democrat-leaning state.
