Dumpster fire extinguished at Barrington High School
Barrington High School was temporarily evacuated at 10:22 a.m. Thursday due to a fire in a large metal trash bin.
Once the source of the fire was discovered -- just outside the building's trash compactor -- students were allowed back into the building but locked down in large common areas like the gym and cafeteria.
Barrington Assistant Fire Chief Chris Toussaint said the fire was quickly controlled.
Students were released back to their regular classes at about 11:15 a.m.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, though Barrington fire officials have heard that batteries were being disposed of and may have short-circuited while being crushed.
