Small business can't wait for reform

A political newcomer who made driving a truck front and center of his campaign won Ted Kennedy's open Senate seat. Why has this election stopped a national yearlong conversation on reform and bills in Congress days from passage?

Why are the rest of us paying for the folly of Massachusetts' voters who already have health care reform? Last week my dad had a heart attack. He had Medicare and his treatment went smoothly. For years now my dad, a small-business owner, has struggled with insurance costs. He is in danger of losing his 55-year-old business because of insurance costs.

He is not alone. In Illinois, health care reform legislation would provide help with purchasing insurance through tax credits to 144,000 small businesses. My parents also have to pay out a lot of money for the doughnut hole, which this legislation fixes.

Small business owners can't wait any longer for health care reform, not today, not when jobs are at stake. Senators Durbin and Burris, we don't have the luxury of nearly 100 percent health care coverage that Massachusetts enjoys. We've waited long enough; finish health care reform right, right now.
