Traveling for Spring Break? Book tickets early

EDINA, Minn. -- If you're planning a Spring Break trip to a popular destination, one Minnesota travel agency suggests you book your ticket early.

A1 Travel in Edina says prices are higher this year than last year because airlines are offering fewer flights.

For example, the agency says a round-trip ticket from Minneapolis to Cancun for the last week of March will cost $450. Last year is was $375.

A trip to Jamaica is about twice what it was last year, and airfare to Hawaii will cost $100 more than it did in 2009.

Agency spokeswoman Raelee Boyce tells KSTP-TV that as the economy improves, those flights are filling up more quickly. She says people who wait end up paying higher rates.

Travel agents advise booking early, or remaining flexible about travel dates.
