Bunco night also fundraiser for Heart Association

Circle Thursday, Feb. 25 on your calendar. It's the Women's' Queen of Hearts Bunco Night from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Honquest Furniture for Living showroom, 1455 S. Barrington Road (just north of Dundee Road). Northwest Community Hospital is co-sponsor.

Established Bunco groups are encouraged to host their February gathering by joining this event at Honquest. The evening will consist of three rounds of Bunco and opportunities for guests to browse the inviting showroom before and after the games.

Gilbert A. Sita, M.D. will open the event with an overview of symptoms and outline methods and strategies for preventing heart disease - the leading cause of death for American women. Dr. Sita is a cardiac intervention specialist on staff at Northwest Community. He is associated with Northwest Heart Specialists, Arlington Heights.

Following Dr. Sita's presentation, guests will break into teams of four to play Bunco, an 18th century English parlor game using three dice which repopularized as a gambling game in the 1920s. Prizes, donated by Barrington area businesses, will be awarded for various winning or losing categories.

"Bunco is a fun game that requires absolutely no skill," says Lisa Maher, manager of Honquest's carpet department, who organized the event to honor February as heart month.

"I look at it as an opportunity to provide some heart education and a fun, exciting evening," said Maher. "We think it is a particularly appropriate way to observe February as heart month."

Maher said several Honquest staff members who experienced heart issues within the past year inspired the event.

A minimum $30 cash donation or check payable to The American Heart Association is required. Credit cards are not accepted for this event. All proceeds go direct to The American Heart Association. Light heart healthy refreshments and goody bags are included.

In addition to prizes players are invited to enter Honquest's drawings for a Karastan 8x10 area rug and FREE installation of up to 25 yards of wall to wall carpeting; some exclusions apply. Only registered participants are eligible to enter the drawings.
