Chase ends in driver's arrest in Elk Grove Village

A driver is in custody this morning after leading several police departments on a chase that spanned more than 30 miles and lasted over 90 minutes.

The chase started about 3 a.m. in Oak Lawn, Hillside police officials said, when an officer spotted a car without working taillights at 101st Street and Cicero Avenue.

Oak Lawn officials said the driver took off after police attempted to pull the car over.

Officials said the chase was halted after leaving Oak Lawn due to safety concerns, but Oak Lawn officers notified nearby jurisdictions.

The driver went through Countryside and Hillside, among other towns, and finally into Elk Grove Village, where the Saturn began running into other cars and driving through red lights near Mannheim Road.

The driver hit a parked car before officers corralled the car and driver near Oakton Avenue and Arlington Heights Road.

Police said the unidentified driver was injured in the chase.

Hillside police said the driver's name would be released later Wednesday.
