Dundee Township Library offering tax help

It's that time of year again.

No, I am not talking about getting used to life without football. I mean it's time to do your taxes - or at least think about doing them.

For those who might need some help, the Dundee Township Library is providing free tax preparation and assistance services from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Thursday until April 15. The AARP counselors will be available to help seniors, as well as low- and middle-income taxpayers complete basic tax forms and answer questions. Appointments are required and can be made at (847) 428-3661 ext. 308. In addition, tax forms are available near the Information Services Desk or online at www.irs.gov.

Saving memories: These days, most of us take photographs digitally - on a digital camera, camera-phone, or some other electronic device that captures pictures in a digital format.

We can edit, touch-up and alter photographs without ever having to have it developed or even printed out on photo paper. We scan through photos on our computers or phones; we rarely flip through a photo album anymore.

But some of the most memorable moments of yesteryear are preserved on paper and are susceptible to wear, damage and decay. You can learn how to protect and preserve those images Wednesday at the Dundee Township Library. Local photographer and photo restoration expert Larry Pepper of Pepper Photography in East Dundee will teach some basic techniques about image restoration at the "Digital Image Restoration" program hosted by the Dundee Library at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10.

Attendees are invited to bring a photo to be entered into a drawing that will be used for the demonstration. The winning photo owner will receive a finished print of the restored image after the presentation. This event is free, but registration is required. To register, call (847) 428-3661, ext. 308, log on to www.dundeelibrary.info, or visit the information services desk at the library. The library is at 555 Barrington Ave. in East Dundee.

The snowmen goeth: Ella Johnson Library in Hampshire is winding down it's Snowmen on Parade display on Saturday, Feb. 13. This is the last opportunity for families to earn pieces for their snowmen that are on display in the library's windows.
