Money doesn't control elections

At the State of the Union address, President Obama was highly critical of the recent Supreme Court decision of Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission. Why?

"Congress shall make no law ..." does not mean "Congress ought to make some laws." Even the ACLU filed a brief against the ban, calling it "facially unconstitutional."

The New York Times said the decision "strikes at the heart of democracy." Yet, the Times sees no hypocrisy in being a corporation that tell us how we should vote - after taking in ad revenue from the same corporations that they want Congress to stifle.

Unless you believe voters are idiots, a slick ad campaign can only make them look; you still need a decent product people want to buy.

History shows that mere money can not make people embrace the Edsel, New Coke, Susan B. Anthony dollars, or Ross Perot.
