Man accidentally shoots himself at Hanover Park hotel

No charges will be filed in an accidental shooting that took place Tuesday in Hanover Park. The incident occurred around 2:05 p.m. at a hotel on the 1000 block of Lake Street.

Police determined a 64-year-old man accidentally shot himself while waiting for an elevator. The .32-caliber handgun he owned dropped onto a luggage cart and discharged, police said. The man was shot in his lower right leg and transported to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates.

His injury was not life-threatening, police said. The victim had a valid firearm owner's identification card and the DuPage County State's Attorney's office decided against pressing charges, police said.
