Hampshire's Field chooses Indiana Tech
The Indiana Tech women's soccer program has announced that Alex Field of Hampshire has signed a letter of intent to play soccer at Indiana Tech.
The 5-foot-5 midfielder is a three-year varsity starter for Hampshire and helped the Whip-Purs to a state runner-up finish in 2008 and a state semifinal berth in 2007.
Field was a Big Northern All-Conference player in 2007 and she received all-conference and all area honors in 2008 and 2009. She is a member of the Kickers United Football Club and she plans to study education while attending Indiana Tech.
"Alex will play a major role in our midfield," said Warriors head coach Jim Lipocky. "She has all the qualities I look for in a midfielder and she will be instrumental in the development of our program."
Salem at ISU: Larkin graduate Eyad Salem had a banner senior season for the Illinois State University football team. A 6-foot-2 wide receiver for the Redbirds, Salem finished the season as the fourth leading receiver in the nation for receptions per game and he was 15th among all Division I-AA schools in receiving yards per game. In 11 games, he averaged 8.4 receptions per game, catching 92 balls for 943 yards and 6 touchdowns for an average of 85.7 yards per game. He was a first-team all-Missouri Valley Conference selection and set school and league single-season records in several receiving categories. Salem, who had five 100-yard receiving games this past season, had a career-high 172 yards against North Dakota State. He tied the ISU record for catches in a game twice with 14.
Kube at NIU: Former Cary-Grove standout Alex Kube, a redshirt junior on the Northern Illinois University football team, was in on 60 tackles from his linebacker position for the Huskies this season as they went 7-6, losing 27-3 to South Florida in the International Bowl in Toronto. Kube had 18 solo tackles and 42 assists as well as 6 tackles for loss for 14 yards.
Lorman at Grand Valley State: Cary-Grove product Andrew Lorman had a productive sophomore football season at Grand Valley State in Michigan. Lorman, a 6-2, 225-pound tight end, started in 13 of the team's 15 games and had 22 receptions for 268 yards (17.9 average) and 3 TDs.
Moran at Northern Iowa: Former Jacobs star John Moran is now a sophomore on the Northern Iowa men's basketball team. The 6-1 guard has started 15 games this season and averages 25.5 minutes per game. He's averaging 5.9 points and 3.6 rebounds per game and is third on the team with 14 3-pointers. He's also shooting 81 percent from the free throw line and leads the team with 19 steals. Northern Iowa is 14-1.
Krutwig at South Dakota: Conrad Krutwig, last year's all-area co-captain who is now playing men's basketball at South Dakota, has played in 13 games, averaging 6.2 minutes per contest. He is averaging 1.8 points a 2.2 rebounds per game.
Little at New Mexico JC: Bartlett graduate Marc Little, the other co-captain from last year's all-area team, has played in 12 games and is averaging 7.9 points per game at New Mexico Junior College. Little, a 5-9 guard, is shooting 90 percent from the free-throw line, averages 2.8 rebounds per game and leads the 10-2 team with 42 assists.
Holton at Tusculum: Elgin High product Ellen Holton is a 6-1 freshman forward for Division I Tusculum College in Tennessee. She has played in 11 games and averages 2.3 points per game and 2.1 rebounds.
Kumerow at Whitewater: South Elgin alum Cortney Kumerow has played in 14 games and started eight times for the Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team. A 6-1 freshman forward, Kumerow is averaging 7.5 points per game for the Warhawks as well as 4.7 rebounds, which is second on the team. She also leads the team with 16 blocked shots.
Beachler at Taylor: Westminster Christian graduate Tyler Beachler scored 18 goals this past season to lead the Taylor University men's soccer team. Beachler, a sophomore, also led the team with 65 shots, an average of 3.42 per game.
Granger at Eastern: Elgin High alum Jeremy Granger is averaging 9.6 points and 2.6 rebounds per game for the Eastern Illinois University men's basketball team. Granger has started all 16 games for the 10-6 Panthers. He is shooting 82 percent from the free throw line and leads the team with his 50 percent mark from 3-point range (7 of 14). Granger scored a season-high 24 points in an 82-68 win at Chicago State on Nov. 24.
Williams at Texas-Arlington: Former Elgin standout Armani Williams is a redshirt freshman on the Texas-Arlington men's basketball team. Williams had played in 13 games and averages 16 minutes per game. He has made 24 of 60 3-point attempts and is shooting 79 percent from the free-throw line. He averages 7.8 points per game and had a career-high 23 points in a 72-64 win over UT-Dallas on Jan. 2.
Yohn at Bradley: St. Edward grad Katie Yohn, the all-area captain last year who is now a freshman on the Bradley University women's basketball team, has started 10 of 14 games for the 6-8 Braves. Yohn is averaging 9.5 points per game and 2.6 rebounds. Her 16 steals are second on the team.
Beck at Lake Forest: Dundee-Crown product Jeff Beck is a 6-1 freshman guard on the Lake Forest College men's basketball team. He has started all 11 games for the Foresters and averages 24.6 minutes per game, 6.2 points and 2.5 rebounds. He is tied for second on the team with 12 steals.
