Chicago man dies 5½ years after beating
Authorities say a 47-year-old Chicago man has died more than 5 years after he was found beaten in a stairwell.
The Cook County medical examiner's office said Sunday that autopsy results were pending further studies for Vincent Peterson. The office says Peterson died Saturday at a hospital in suburban Evanston.
Officials say Peterson most recently lived at a nursing home.
Chicago police say they found Peterson 5½ years ago, on May 26, 2004, beaten with severe head trauma in the stairwell of a public housing building on Chicago's North Side. Police say they are investigating the attack and the motive was unknown. Police say no one has been charged.
