Not much to see with first flakes of the season
The first significant snowfall of the season has had minimal impact on the suburbs thus far, according to authorities.
There were reports of minor accidents this morning, one at I-355 north on the Roosevelt Road ramp and another at I-94 north at Dundee Road, officials said. According to the Illinois State Police Department’s District Chicago office, there were 25 crashes on the highways this morning.
This snow system, which the National Weather Service said left less than an inch of snow on the ground, was heading east. We are expected to see some sunshine later today, with a high of 36 degrees and a low of 21 degrees, said Steve Travis, a meteorologist at AccuWeather. Sunday’s and Monday’s highs are expected to be in the 40s.
The next snowfall won’t be until Tuesday afternoon. It’ll start out as rain and turn into snow, before ending that night or Wednesday morning. It’ll only be about an inch of snow or so, just enough to coat the ground, Travis said.
Meanwhile, it was business as usual at the major airports.
The airlines stationed at both O’Hare and Midway airports were experiencing normal operations, but due to the winter weather conditions, some were expecting delays later today.
