Endorsement: Skillicorn in House District 66
Longtime Republican state Rep. Mike Tryon last year announced he would not seek re-election, paving the way for new representation in House District 66, which includes parts of northern Kane and southern McHenry counties.
Allen Skillicorn, in his second term on the East Dundee village board, has been a strong voice for fiscal conservatism in town, pushing for a property tax freeze and lobbying against special financing districts.
He won his primary in a three-way race.
He opposes any tax increases, suggesting the state can get back on track if it addresses waste in Medicaid and workers' comp laws.
He faces Democrat Nancy Zettler, a retired attorney from Algonquin who fought alongside Community Unit District 300 in its battle over tax issues related to the Sears corporate campus in Hoffman Estates several years ago.
This is Zettler's first run for public office. She was unopposed in the primary.
She said the only tax increase she would support is a widely discussed so-called millionaire's tax that would levy an additional 3-percent on anything more than $1 million income.
Skillicorn is endorsed largely for his experience pushing tax relief in his village.
