S. Ind.’s Dillman Farm reopens after May tornado

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — A southern Indiana business known for its old-fashioned fruit preserves has reopened months after a tornado damaged the family-owned operation.

Dillman Farm reopened its Bloomington storefront Dec. 1, but construction work continues as farm workers are busy preparing gift baskets in the loft of the newly remodeled warehouse.

A May 25 tornado that tore through Bloomington’s west side destroyed storage barns and a boiler at the farm known for fruit preserves, spreads and jellies made with whole fruit, pure cane sugar and no preservatives.

Farm co-owner Cary Dillman tells The Herald-Times says workers, friends and family helped the business survive the tornado’s aftermath. He hopes the rebuild is done by the end of the month before he hits the trade show circuit.
