Heat wilts Chicago Wolves
Abbotsford’s Quintin Laing scored twice to snap a 1-1 tie as the Heat defeated the Chicago Wolves 3-1 on Sunday night at Allstate Arena.
Tim Miller netted the Wolves’ goal, while goalie Eddie Lack stopped 22 shots in both teams’ third game in a 48-hour stretch.
“We played some decent games this weekend, but not well enough to win any of them,” said Wolves coach Craig MacTavish. “We need to play more consistent to ensure ourselves a win.”
The Heat (16-8-1-0) opened the scoring at 8:14 of the first period when Krys Kolanos fired a wrister that beat Lack in heavy traffic.
The Wolves (9-8-1-3) evened the score at 11:59 of the first when Miller uncorked a wrister that beat Heat goaltender Danny Taylor (25 saves) over the shoulder. Victor Oreskovich and Mark Mancari picked up assists on Miller’s third goal in his last five games.
Abbotsford needed 32 seconds to regain the lead as Laing deflected Chris Breen’s shot from the point into the net.
The Heat tacked on an insurance goal 8:55 into the third period on a power play when Lance Bouma’s pass found Laing, who flicked a shot past Lack (3-5-3).
The Wolves return to action at 7 p.m. Friday at Rockford in an Illinois Lottery Cup contest.
