Palatine library scaring up summer readers

The Palatine Public Library District has begun its 2010 Summer Reading Program for the 90,000 residents it serves.

As part of this year's "Scare Up a Good Book" theme, the library will be transformed into a "spooktacular" experience featuring games, activities, discussions and decor.

Participants who meet the reading requirements by Saturday, July 31, will receive a T-shirt compliments of the Friends of the Palatine Library. Last year, more than 4,700 T-shirts were given away as prizes.

The program is open to children and adults alike.

First through third grade will read "The Class Trip from the Black Lagoon" by Mike Thaler with a book chat from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday, June 25. Fourth through sixth grades will read "Bunnicula: a Rabbit-Tale of Mystery" by Deborah and James Howe with a chat from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, July 19.

Register for the program at the main library, Rand Road branch and Freeman Road branch. Bookmobile registration begins Friday, June 11.
