Husband dies in house fire
Authorities say a man is dead after an early Christmas Day house fire, but his wife was rescued by firefighters.
The Illinois state fire marshal’s office and the Will County sheriff’s office are investigating the blaze. It broke out in the two-story house near Joliet around 2:50 a.m. Sunday and took less than an hour to extinguish.
The man’s identity wasn’t immediately released. The Will County coroner’s office says an autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
East Joliet Fire Protection District Chief Robert Scholtes says the victim and his wife were the only people at home.
The fire gutted the house. The cause of the fire is unknown.
