Credit union scholarship deadline approaching

The deadline is approaching for students wishing to apply for one of six $1,500 scholarships available to local high school seniors on pace to graduate in 2012.

The scholarships are offered by Consumers Cooperative Association, sponsor of Consumers Credit Union.

“Consumers Credit Union is proud to have a sponsor like the CCA who values higher education and the academic success of our future leaders,” said Sean Rathjen, CCU president.

“It is critical that the students of today are given every opportunity to help them excel. It is their guiding hands that will shape the decisions of tomorrow and ultimately light the way for achievements.”

Applications are available at area high schools, at all six Consumers Credit Union locations and online at www.myconsumers.org.

Valid applications must include the student’s official high school transcript through their junior year, along with a copy of their first semester grades from the current academic year. Applications must be received by Dec. 31.

High school students scheduled to graduate next spring are eligible to apply, as long as the applicant or parent/guardian has been a member of CCU for a minimum of one year.

Applicants will be evaluated on academic performance, financial need and leadership abilities, including community involvement. To be considered, applicants must complete an application and submit a nonreturnable photo.

Those students awarded scholarships will be featured in an upcoming issue of CCU’s newsletter, The Reporter.
