Council puts investigation of mayor on hold

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. — The Sheboygan Common Council has voted to suspend an investigation of the mayor until after a recall election is held.

Mayor Bob Ryan told the council Monday night that he wanted the investigation to proceed in order to clear up allegations contained in a resolution. Ryan says the allegations could “taint” the Jan. 17 recall election against him.

The Sheboygan Press says that among the allegations is one investigated by the Fond du Lac Sheriff’s Department. The council resolution alleges the mayor had “uninvited sexual contact” last July in Elkhart Lake. That’s when Ryan went on a weekend drinking binge.

Ryan says he’s a recovering alcoholic who has been sober for five months.
