CTA offers penny rides for New Year’s Eve

Planning ahead for New Year’s Eve? The Chicago Transit Authority reminds partygoers that rides on CTA trains and buses will cost one penny.

The CTA says the penny rides start Saturday, Dec. 31, at 10 p.m. and end at 4 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 1.

CTA drivers and staff will assist customers with questions regarding fare payment. Signs will be posted on buses and at rail stations reminding customers to not swipe or insert their farecards during the penny ride period. No refunds will be issued if a full fare is deducted from a farecard during the penny ride period.

Officials say several bus and rail routes also will have later service hours to accommodate for the holiday and offer a safe option for travelers.
