Used car dealer coming to Rand Road in Des Plaines

The Des Plaines city council Monday night approved a conditional use permit for a used car dealership and auto body repair shop to locate on Rand Road at the site of the former Randhurst Kia dealership.

The roughly 4-acre property, 855 E. Rand Road, had previously been authorized by the city council for a car dealership on Jan. 18. However, the business never got off the ground and the property owner, Fifth-Third Bank, has since found a new dealer to operate there, officials said.

Des Plaines 7th Ward Alderman Dan Wilson stressed that the new operator must fix the fence that surrounds the property, which fronts single-family residences on the south and west sides, and baffle the parking lot lights so the glare doesn’t affect nearby homeowners along Meadow Drive.

Those requirements are already part of the conditional use permit, officials said.

Wilson also requested the dealer not use an audible outdoor paging system on the property and that all body repair work be done behind closed doors.
