Libertyville road referendum

Voters in Libertyville will be asked whether they want the village to issue $20 million in bonds for road construction and repairs. The village board on Tuesday authorized the question for the March 20 primary ballot. Staff has determined the money would be enough to address roads that need attention within the next five to seven years to prevent more costly reconstruction. If approved, the measure would quadruple the annual road improvement program. Bonds would be paid from through property taxes, which would increase about 30 percent from the current rate. The village is planning a public education meeting on the issue.
