Sarcastic attacks only set us back
In your Nov. 8 editorial you applauded the proposed Winfield board rules asking members to “be inclusive ... show respect ... give constructive criticism.” In Fence Post the same day, the writer of “Can’t TV be more creative, less vulgar?” asked for less humiliation, fighting and degradation on TV. The writer of the next letter, “AARP spreading lies about Social Security,” however, lost my interest in his viewpoint halfway through when I read: “Let me give you some advice, Grandpa,” “ ... get your grandson to help you,” and “Boneheads like you and your gang.” Criticism, differing viewpoints and disagreements receive thoughtful consideration when done with respect and civility.
Sarcasm and attacks only inflame the issues and strengthen the opposing view. Let’s all please stop the sarcasm and attacks and behave more civilly toward each other. It’s OK to agree to disagree.
