South Elgin man charged with DUI after crash
A 31-year-old South Elgin man is charged with felony drunken driving following a crash Friday evening in Bartlett that injured another driver.
Police say Felipe A. Lopez was traveling west on Lake Street at Park Avenue in the left turn lane at about 7 p.m. when the crash occurred. Police said instead of turning, Lopez continued straight and his vehicle struck an eastbound vehicle head-on. The unidentified driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital where they were treated and released, police said Saturday in court.
Police said Lopez failed field sobriety tests, but refused to take a breath test.
In addition to the DUI charges Lopez faces, he is also charged with driving without insurance, driving without a license and improper lane use.
Assistant State’s Attorney Katherine Levine said Lopez had a previous drunken driving conviction in 1999 during a Saturday bond hearing in Rolling Meadows.
Judge Anthony Iosco set Lopez’s bail at $20,000. Lopez remains behind bars at the Cook County jail. His next court date is slated for Jan. 10.
